Why Cocoon exists
Why Cocoon was created
In 2019, a serious brain injury led Dr Gary Dennis to hyperbaric oxygen therapy. Everything he learned pointed to the same thing: consistency mattered. To get the most from HBOT, it needed to become part of a daily routine over a sustained period. But travelling to a clinic every single day was expensive, time-consuming and hard to keep up.
Rather than spending hours travelling to appointments, Gary brought HBOT into his own home. The routine became manageable, sustainable, and far easier to fit around everyday life. That experience became the idea behind Cocoon — guided at-home HBOT, designed to make a consistent routine practical and sustainable, without the daily clinic commute.
Today, that same philosophy sits at the heart of Cocoon — helping people access guided HBOT in a way that is practical, sustainable and supported from start to finish.
"I lived this myself — so at Cocoon we take the time to understand your situation, build a plan around it, and stay a phone call away throughout." Dr Gary Dennis · Founder

Meet the people behind Cocoon
Dr Gary Dennis
Founder
DC (USA) • MMC (AUS) • Dip HBOT (USA) • NZCA
Gary founded Cocoon after his own experience with at-home HBOT following a brain injury in 2019. He holds a Diploma in Hyperbaric Medicine and is one of a small number of people in New Zealand qualified in functional hyperbaric medicine.
He guides every Cocoon programme personally — from your first conversation, through delivery and set-up, to ongoing support along the way.
Dr Lorene Dennis
Supporting families through recovery
DC • Dip Paeds • NZCA
Lorene brings a background in neuro-developmental paediatrics — a two-year diplomate completed in Melbourne, held by only a handful of practitioners in New Zealand. For years she ran Connected Families Chiropractic, working closely with children and families.
Her perspective is also deeply personal: a mother of three, including a daughter with Down syndrome, and closely involved in Gary's recovery after his brain injury in 2019. That lived experience shapes how she supports the people and families who come to Cocoon — especially those navigating recovery as a whole household, not just one person.
